ORIGIN AND SIGNIFICANCE

The fast of Karwa Chauth is of particular importance for all Hindu married women in India. They believe that the festival provides wealth, longevity and well-being of their husbands. The origin of this festival was based on a very sweet and noble idea. Although this idea has lost its true meaning that today the whole outlook of this festival changed. In the old days girls married at a very early stage and had to live with their in-laws in d other villages.

After marriage, if it faces no problems with her in-laws or her husband, she would not have anyone to talk to or seek support. There were no telephones, buses and trains for long. His own parents and relatives would be very far away and inaccessible. And custom started at the time of marriage, when bride would reach the in-laws, she became friends with another woman there who would be her friend or sister for life. It would be like God, friends or god-sisters.

Their friendship is sanctified by a small Hindu right during the marriage ceremony. Once the bride and this woman had become friends of God or god-sisters, who would remain so throughout their lives and recognize the relationship itself. It is also about others as real brothers.
